Gina Wilner

College planning consultant

For over 15 years, Gina has supported high school students and their families in making a smooth transition to post-secondary life. After graduating from Syracuse University with a double major in Communications and Psychology, Gina knew she wanted to pursue a career that involved working with adolescents. Two years later she graduated from Northeastern University with a Master’s Degree in Counseling and a concentration in Children and Adolescents.

Gina spent the first 10 years of her career working as a Counselor, Career Education teacher, Special Educator, and Transition Coordinator at two high schools - one small private school in a Boston suburb and one high performing charter school in the city. After moving to North Carolina, Gina joined the Meredith College Admissions team as the Assistant Director of Transfer Admissions and was ultimately promoted to Associate Director of Admissions, working with both transfer and high school students. In this role, she had the opportunity to talk in depth with transfer applicants about their college search experience during high school - why they chose their current institution, why it was not a good fit, and what they really wanted their college experience to be. She realized that for many of these students, additional guidance during junior or senior year of high school could have made a positive impact.

With her knowledge and previous experience in mind, Gina’s goal is to provide students with the support and tools to make intentional decisions at each step of the process leading to a confident, well informed enrollment choice in May.

Gina’s top strengths are communication and empathy. She is a passionate champion for her students, guiding the path, encouraging them forward, and celebrating successes big and small along the way. As a College Planning Consultant, Gina combines her years of experience and gained knowledge in working with teens during times of transition, of the college application process, and of the factors that make a school the right fit for each individual.

When she is not working with students and families, Gina can be found with her husband and two young daughters, where she is likely to be playing outside, cooking up a new recipe, or working on a crossword puzzle.
