BETH HANLEY
College planning consultant

Beth joined Advantage College Planning after a successful career in various educational leadership roles. Early in her professional journey, she served as a recruiter for a service organization, gaining valuable experience interviewing and counseling students at colleges and universities across the country. Her time at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, deepened her understanding of the vibrancy and richness of campus communities as she developed programs for students and young alums. Later, Beth transitioned to managing public relations and communications for the College, further enhancing her expertise in the higher education landscape.

With a passion for empowering students to find their ideal learning environments, Beth has read and evaluated applications for Bates College. Her most recent role as the Director of Admissions at a private college preparatory, independent day school provided her with unique insights into the needs and aspirations of students during crucial transitional periods.

Holding a Master's Degree in English from Boston College, Beth taught the First Year Writing course at BC, honing her ability to guide students through the writing process with care and sensitivity. Her joy is helping students develop essays showcasing their unique voices, values, and lived experiences.

For over 20 years, Beth has been a devoted advocate and community partner for students in Maine. Her commitment is evident through her involvement as a coach for community soccer and running and her leadership roles as chairperson of the MSAD 51 PTO and vice-chair of the school board in that district.

She and her husband, Jim, live in Falmouth and are proud parents of three daughters, two of whom have navigated the college search process, so Beth intimately understands the excitement and stress that comes with this pivotal phase in a student's life. Her personal experiences fuel her dedication to supporting families throughout this journey.

Beth finds immense joy in spending quality moments with her family in her spare time. She also enjoys staying active through running, spin class, and walking her family's two German Shepherds. Exploring new places through travel and spending time in nature are among her cherished pastimes.
